The standards councillors must keep.
Every councillor signs this code when they take office. It is based on the Local Government Association model code.
Councillors must treat people with respect, must not bully or harass anyone, and must not use their position to gain an advantage for themselves or others.
Councillors must declare their interests. If a decision could affect their own money, home or business, they leave the room and do not vote.
Gifts or hospitality worth more than £50 must be registered within 28 days.
If you think a councillor has broken the code, you can complain to the Monitoring Officer at the district council. The Clerk can tell you how.
